Joyous Leadership

Welcome to the Joyous Leadership portion of my site. I owe the title of this site to my friend Al Sturgeon. He dubbed that title to a book I was writing after reading some of the manuscripts and it seems to have stuck. A book you ask? Let’s step back a few months.

A little over three years ago, a friend of mine would seek advice about my experience with a management/leadership issues he was having. We would talk for a few minutes and he would respond with something like, “that should be chapter 5 of your book.” I would usually chuckle and say “Thanks! But that’s not happening.” This went on for several months until one day I was asked to speak to a young leadership group. I was struggling for a topic when I asked this same friend to text me back the book chapters he had come up with and I would pick something out of that. He promptly sent me seven chapter titles that had came from advice I had given him.

A few weeks after my speech, I thought why not give it a try? What would it hurt? My logic was this:
1. I’m not John Maxwell but I’ve got a lot more bad experience than he does so maybe my failures can help someone else.
2. I can leave some sort of legacy or footprint to family and friends after I’m gone from this earth to remember me by if they choose. Stacie and I will never have grandchildren but we do have some sweet nieces and nephews that may want to know something about me some day.
3. Since I’m not a real author, I can write what I want from the heart and just self publish. No pressure.

Since I began this journey I was diagnosed with ATTR amyloidosis and has made writing more of a challenge due to fatigue and severe neuropathy in my hands. I am about 75% complete but still a long way to go.

If you are interested in helping me and would like to read some of this book here is what you can do:
1. Sign up for updates below by entering you email address and confirming your subscription.
2. Send me an email at johnmarkwatson@gmail.com and I will send you one chapter to read.
3. Read it. Mark it up with comments (both good and bad). Return the marked up copy to me so I can make it better.
4. Pass along a copy for others to read.

Thanks all!

Mark
