This completes my fifth week of traveling back and forth to upstate New York. The typical drill is to take the 6:00 AM flight out on Monday via Atlanta and return about 9:00 PM on Friday evening through Cincinnati. I still have a few more weeks to go but plan on skipping a few in between after next week.
If you know me very well you know I will talk to anyone. I love to meet new people. I love to learn new cultures and experience new surroundings. This week was no exception.
On the flight up to New York state I changed seats with an Hispanic lady so she could sit beside her teenage daughter. In exchange I took the back seat by the toilet on the aircraft (I was feeling generous). The flight attendant sat down beside me and we struck up a conversation, commenting on my many early Monday morning flights. I found out that she actually lives in California but is based in Atlanta. I was reading Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado and had a good conversation about that. She decided she would pick up a copy on her next layover. Before we finished talking, she invited me and my wife out to California to go on a wine tour. I took her name . . . we’ll see what happens.
I have also been able to make friends with several of the locals around Geneva, New York. This week I was invited by a bike club to ride with them on Tuesday nights. They said they would supply everything but my bike shorts! Amazing.
I also got a call during the workday from Patty who works in one of the plants and tells me I should go to Sodus Point one night and eat at Bay Street Grill. She said she told them that I would come and that they were supposed to take care of me.
I also have an Hispanic mom that runs the Hampton Inn in Geneva that gives me a hug every time I’m there. This week she chewed one of my corporate colleagues out for me having to work so much and do the dirty work while they arrived three weeks later.
I could write about many more, but maybe later. Maybe next week I’ll meet you too!
