One Year Bible – Week of 2/7

by Mark on Feb.13, 2010, under Faith

Stacie and I had a difference of opinion on our readings this week.  She thought they were boring and I thought the opposite.  She didn’t like reading about all the rules given to Moses by God and reading about all the formality of the tabernacle.  I had a different take.  I didn’t read it from the point of all the rules.  I read it from the point that God was letting us in on His personality.  One thing that I found really awesome about God is that He loved a barbecue!  “. . . a pleasing fragrance before God”  Exodus 29:15-18.

This weeks readings came from Exodus 28-40, Act 1-6, and Proverb 6-10:16.  Highlights include the following:

  1. The institution of the Priesthood through Aaron and his sons
  2. God loving the smell of an offering
  3. Urim and Thummim stones
  4. The law given on Mount Sinai to Moses
  5. Instructions and building of the Tabernacle, including the furnishings
  6. The beginings of the early church in Acts
  7. Replacing Judas, Jesus betrayer, with Mathias
  8. Casting lots for Judas replacement
  9. The power and importance of the Holy Spirit

What a contrast of all the old laws and rules with the simplicity at the beginning of the early church!
